Week One Afterthought

I survived the first week of semester two! 19 more weeks to go!

The modules I am taking this semester are Typography, User-Centered Design, Digital Media Studies 2Audio Video Production, 3D Modelling & Animation, and Studio Project 2. Here is how I like to classify them:

Core Design Modules (aka die-die must learn if-not-you-will-not-survive-in-the-future module)
Thinking Module (aka module that will be glued to us until the end of year 2)
Cross-disciplinary Fundamental Modules (aka things you might not even touch after this semester)
Typography
Digital Media Studies 2
Audio Video Production
User-Centered Design

3D Modelling &Animation

Apparently, one of our lecturers told us that semester one is all about expressing ourselves, learning the skills of visual communication - how we can express ourselves visually, which is more inwards. That is in contrast of this semester, which is how we can design for other people, mastering the skills needed to look into their needs and wants, which is more outwards.

She also told us that Design is in between Art and Engineering. And while year 1 focus on visual art, year 2 focus on engineering aspect (scripting, debugging, etc.).

I also heard our lecturers say that there will be integrated assignments like those in semester one. Seemingly, there will be one consisting of User-Centered Design and Audio Video Production. Odd combination if you ask me, but I will not know until the brief is release.

As for the software we will be using... Adobe Illustrator for Typography, Final Cut Pro and Audacity for Audio Video Production, Autodesk 3ds Max for 3D Modelling & Animation. We do not have Final Cut Pro and 3ds Max so we would have to stay back in school to complete our assignments.

By the way, the photo above is the Greek temple I created in the 3D Modelling & Animation class yesterday. That was our first lesson for that module.
